Scan Tool Security Validation Program
For many years automakers have used the registry to authenticate security related transactions on their diagnostic applications. Aftermarket tool companies began using this process in 2024 to reduce vehicle theft using their tools as well as to discourage theft and illicit use of their tools from locksmiths and service professionals.
The majority of these transactions are completed on the tool and logged by VSP ID in NASTF’s SDRM database by simply entering your VSPID and a passcode generated by our multi factor app on your phone. Some Automaker transactions (Most common with Ford, Hyundai/Genesis and KIA products) require the completion of a customer authorization form which is conveniently available and organized in the SDRM by the type of ownership of the vehicle. Aftermarket Tool Security Validation
This voluntary program utilizing NASTF SDRM technology is an industry wide effort to reduce:
- High tech vehicle theft
- Theft of security capable tools
- Injury and property damage to technicians and shops who own these tools
NASTF’s aftermarket scan tool validation program is now live on Launch Tech USA’s tool, with other companies coming online soon. When using a participating company’s tool, you will need a NASTF VSP ID to use a scan tool to perform security functions including:
- Add a key
- All keys lost
- Immobilizer functions
You will be responsible for verifying the identity of the vehicle owner, but you are not required to fill out a D1. The tool and NASTF will take care of this process behind the scenes.
Toolmakers have the capability to offer both online and 24 hour offline functionality.
